Cookies
This cookie policy explains how I use cookies on my Website.
What are cookies?
Cookies are small text files that websites store in your web browser (if you agree) when you visit them. They serve as a memory for those websites, helping to improve your browsing experience in several ways:
- Essential cookies enable basic website functions, like keeping you logged in or remembering items in your shopping cart
- Performance cookies collect anonymous data about how visitors use the site, helping owners understand and improve their website’s functionality
- Preference cookies remember your settings, such as language choice or color theme
- Advertising and third party cookies are set by external services, like analytics tools or social media platforms, and can track your activity across different websites
Most modern web browsers allow you to control cookie settings, letting you accept or reject different types of cookies.
How cookies are used on my Website
I store cookies in your web browser only if you agree. When you first visit my Website, you’ll see a cookie consent banner asking for your permission. You can either accept or dismiss this banner:
- If you accept, cookies will be stored in your browser
- If you dismiss, no cookies will be stored, but the banner will remain visible
Types of cookies used on my Website
Essential cookies
Essential cookies enable basic website functions, like keeping you logged in or remembering items in a shopping cart.
There are currently no essential cookies in use on my Website.
Performance cookies
I use a lightweight, privacy-focused analytics tool that I’ve created myself. This helps me understand how visitors use my Website by collecting basic usage data. The analytics tool uses two cookies:
Cookie Name | Description | Activated | Duration |
---|---|---|---|
__mtu | A randomly generated unique ID (UUID v4) used to understand how visitors navigate the Website. If you don’t accept cookies, you’ll be treated as an anonymous user. | When consent is given | 365 days |
__mtc | A timestamp recording when you gave consent for cookies. Used to track the validity of your consent. | When consent is given | 365 days |
My analytics tool also uses browser session storage (which is automatically cleared when you close your browser) to temporarily store:
- A session ID
- Previous page information
- Technical performance data
This data helps me understand:
- Which pages are most useful to visitors
- How visitors navigate through the Website
- Whether the Website is performing well technically
All analytics data is:
- Collected and processed directly by me
- Not shared with any third parties
- Used only to improve the Website
- Either anonymized or tied to a randomly generated ID
Preferences cookies
Preference cookies remember your personal settings and choices on a website to enhance your browsing experience. These cookies store information like your preferred language, region, text size, color themes, or layout preferences. When you return to the site, these cookies ensure it appears and functions according to your previous customizations. For example, if you set a website to dark mode or selected your local currency for an online store, preference cookies will maintain these settings for your next visit. They help create a more personalized and convenient browsing experience without requiring you to reconfigure your preferences each time.
There are currently no preference cookies in use on my Website.
Advertising and third party cookies
Advertising and third party cookies record your visits to a website, the pages you have visited, the links you have followed and information about your browser, device and your IP address. This information is used to make any advertising displayed on the website you visit more relevant to your interests. This information may also be shared with third parties for this purpose, including advertisers and social media companies who may use online retargeting to show you advertising on platforms like Facebook, Instagram, and X based on what you read. For example, you might see adverts related to things mentioned on the website while scrolling through your social media feeds. You can find more information about the individual cookies I use and the purposes for which I use them in the table below including (where applicable) information on how to opt-out of the cookies provided by third parties and social platforms.
There are currently no advertising or third party cookies in use on my website.
Cookie Control
You can control cookies in two ways:
- Through my cookie consent banner
- Through your browser settings
You can withdraw your consent at any time by clearing cookies through your browser settings. The consent banner will then remain visible.
For more information about how I handle your data, please see my separate Privacy Policy.
